Bay Area Women's College Hoops

where to get tickets & how to get to the games

In the following sections you find specific web links for street maps, campus maps, driving directions and public transit routes for each of the six schools covered in this site. It is possible to reach each venue by public transit, and that's the best way for those where parking is difficult. The following is general information about public transit in the Bay Area:

Maples Pavilion

The Stanford Cardinal plays home games in Maples Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University. Here is a map of the vicinity. Locate the legend "Stanford Stadium"; Maples is between that point and Campus Drive. Here is a searchable map of the campus with Maples Pavilion circled in blue (right center). Click on the circle to zoom in.

Getting Tickets

To order tickets, call 1-800-BEATCAL (and don't you wish they'd show a little more class?). PAC-10 games are usually sold out well before game day. General admission seats are on the ends and in the corners, so if you have general admission, be in line when the doors open one hour before game time, in order to get the best available view. This is especially true for weekday games, for which students can buy cheap general admission tickets.

Driving Directions

These are the official driving directions to the campus. Our own directions to Maples for people familiar with the area:

Enter the campus from Embarcadero Road (becomes Galvez Drive), using the left lane to avoid a forced right turn toward the shopping center. For parking you have a choice. You can take the second left-turn lane into the Track House parking lot, and walk past the Track House and around the Taub Tennis Stadium to the front of Maples; or you can continue to the intersection with Campus Drive, turn left, and look for parking in the lots to your right across from Maples.

Using Public Transit

The Palo Alto Caltrain station is about a mile from Maples Pavilion. You can transfer to the Stanford Marguerite shuttle, which will take you a couple of blocks from Maples Pavilion. During the daytime, take Marguerite Line A; in the evenings, the Marguerite Midnight Express. (The California Avenue Caltrain station is about the same distance from Maples. The Stanford Stadium Caltrain station is closer to Maples, but is used only for BIG sporting events like the Shriner's football game.)

There are many SamTrans and VTA bus routes that go past Stanford on El Camino Real and/or to the Palo Alto Caltrain station.

There are SamTrans routes that connect Stanford and the San Francisco Transbay terminal, the Daly City BART station, or various midPeninsula areas. On the SamTrans System Map, zoom in on the pale yellow area to the left of the name "Palo Alto". Maples Pavilion is on Campus Drive near the bottom part of the Marguerite Shuttle route.

There are VTA routes that connect Stanford and Union City or various south Peninsula areas. On the VTA System Map, zoom in on the yellow route (the Marguerite Shuttle) to the left of the name "Palo Alto". Maples Pavilion is between Stanford Stadium and the Marguerite Shuttle route

Call SamTrans or VTA to determine the best route to get from where you are to Stanford.

Haas Pavilion

The University of California Golden Bears play home games in the brand-new Haas Pavilion on the campus in Berkeley (which fronts on Oxford St., between Hearst & Bancroft). Here is a high-level campus map. Here is a detail showing the Haas Pavilion.

Getting Tickets

To order tickets, call 1-800-GO BEARS. However, with more than 9,000 season tickets sold as of 9/23 and student ticket sales ongoing, tickets may be hard to come by.

Driving Directions

Here are the official driving directions, and the official word on parking, which is that it is very difficult -- this is one campus where arriving by public transit is strongly recommended. However, there is a University garage opening onto Bancroft Way at Ellsworth, and a parking lot just downhill toward Fulton, and both allow visitor parking ($5, pay at a machine) in off-hours (weekends and weekday evenings). Here's yet another map.

Using Public Transit

The Downtown Berkeley BART station is 6 blocks from Haas Pavilion.

The AC Transit route F bus runs between San Francisco and the downtown Berkeley BART station.

There are about 6 other AC Transit bus routes that go near Haas Pavilion along the south side of the campus -- see the AC Transit Downtown Berkeley System Map. Call AC Transit to determine the best route to get from where you are to Cal.

SJSU Event Center

The San Jose State Spartans play home games at the Event Center, located in the center of the campus which is bounded by 4th & 10th Streets, San Fernando and San Salvador streets in downtown San Jose. Here is an excellent campus map. The Event Center is building #47 near the center of the map.

Getting Tickets

To order tickets, call toll-free to 1.877.SJSU.TIX (877.757.8849). Tickets should be readily available, given that the Spartans are rebuilding with a new coach and a new school commitment after several dismal, neglected seasons. Now would be an excellent time to invest in inexpensive season tickets, ensuring yourself good seats in future seasons when the team will be more competitive.

Driving Directions

Former fans of the San Jose Lasers (sob!) know well how to get to the Event Center. For others, here are the official driving directions to the campus.

Parking is available in the 7th Street Garage, entered at the intersection of San Salvador and 7th (a small black arrow at the bottom center of the campus map points to the garage entrance).

Using Public Transit

The San Jose Diridon Caltrain station is about 2 miles from the Event Center. If a nice bike ride or a healthy walk doesn't suit you, transfer to VTA bus route 11, route 63, or route 65.

There are 6 or so VTA bus routes that go past San Jose State University. On the VTA system map, zoom in on the Downtown San Jose inset and then on San Jose State University. Call VTA to determine the best route to get from where you are to San Jose State.

Toso Pavilion (Leavey Activities Center)

The Santa Clara Broncos play home games in Toso Pavilion, a fabric-roofed, inflatable building of distinctive appearance (like a giant pillow) on the campus of Santa Clara University. The campus is at 500 El Camino Real (at Palm Drive) in Santa Clara, CA (sandwiched between San Jose and Sunnyvale). Here is the overall campus map. Toso pavilion is in the Leavey Activities Center, the black, rounded-rectangle in the lower right corner. Click on it for a map with a little more detail.

Getting Tickets

To order tickets, call 1-408-554-4660. In contrast to games at Maples or Haas Pavilion, Broncos tickets are inexpensive and there are generally plenty of seats available at the door. Arrive early and you can sit a couple rows up behind the bench.

Driving Directions

Here are the official driving directions to the campus. Parking is usually available near the pavilion. Approach the campus heading south on El Camino Real. Pass the main entrance shown on the map linked above, and continue alongside the stadium to enter the campus at Bellomy street, which looks like an alley or driveway. Park in the area to the right (brown on the map). If for some reason this parking is restricted, go in the main entrance and park in the large new parking structure to the left of the gatehouse, buying a permit from a machine.

Using Public Transit

The Santa Clara Caltrain station is a block from the northwest corner of Santa Clara University, about 1/4 mile from Toso Pavilion.

There are 8 or so VTA bus routes that go past Santa Clara University and/or connect to the Santa Clara Caltrain station. On the VTA system map, zoom in on Santa Clara and then on Santa Clara University. Call VTA to determine the best route to get from where you are to SCU.

Back to THIS WEEK Back to STANDINGS

McKeon Pavilion

The St. Mary's Gaels play home games in the McKeon Pavilion on the St. Mary's campus, which is at St. Mary's Road and Rheem Blvd in Moraga, CA. Moraga is a village southwest of Walnut Creek, off highway 24. Here is a campus map showing the location of McKeon Pavilion, which is in the large structure in the upper left corner of the campus. The official directions also include a map of the vicinity showing the situation of Moraga with respect to other towns.

Getting Tickets

To order tickets, call 1-925-631-4392.

Driving Directions

Here are the official directions to the campus (driving and BART). Enter the campus on St Mary's Pkwy. Pause at the gate house to get a campus map from the guard. Then turn left and proceed around the campus clockwise. McKeon Pavilion is at the second right turn, on your left, in the Rahill Athletic Center. There are several small public parking areas beyond the Athletic Center.

Using Public Transit

The Orinda BART station is about 6 miles from St. Mary's. County Connection bus route 106 runs between the BART station and St. Mary's.

Back to THIS WEEK Back to STANDINGS

War Memorial Gym

The USF Lady Dons play home games in the War Memorial Gymnasium on the University of San Francisco campus, which lies between Stanyan and Masonic Streets, and between Fulton and Golden Gate streets (the Gym fronts on Golden Gate). Here is a campus map highlighting the Memorial Gym.

Getting Tickets

To order tickets, call 1-415-422-2873.

Driving Directions

Here are the official driving directions to the campus. Parking is generally scarce in the City, and an approach by public transport is recommended. If you come by car, the largest number of parking spaces are on the West side of Parker street and the South side of Golden Gate. To pass the largest number of spaces, approach from Geary southbound along Parker and turn left into Golden Gate (here's a map).

Using Public Transit

The Powell St. BART station is a bus ride away from USF. You can take SF Muni bus 5-Fulton, which goes past USF on Fulton St., or bus 31-Balboa, which goes past USF on Turk St.

Getting to USF via Caltrain requires two bus rides. At the Caltrain San Francisco 4th & King station, transfer to Muni bus 15, 30, or 45 to Market St. and ask for a transfer. Then take either the 5 Fulton or 31 Balboa to USF.
